E-Invoicing in Colombia

In the digital age, there are mechanisms to verify the authenticity of information shared online. One of these mechanisms is the digital signature. In Colombia, with the rollout of e-invoicing, the digital signature is gaining ground and its use is becoming widespread.

An electronic invoice has the same legal effect as a paper invoice; the two are equivalent. Both support transactions for the sale of goods and services. Mandatory e-invoicing is governed by DIAN Resolution 000030 of April 29, 2019, which states that all electronic invoices must carry a digital signature backed by a valid certificate.

To generate their electronic invoices, companies in Colombia must either use the system that DIAN publishes on its website or turn to an authorized Technology Provider.
